According to Edison Research, consumers are more likely to listen to audio in their vehicles than in any other location, including their homes. Edison says the automobile is by far the most popular place for people to listen to AM/FM radio, with more than half of all Americans age 13 and older listening to radio in their cars on any given day. According to Standard Media Index, national advertising revenue for radio was flat in July while digital jumped a whopping 17% and television rose 3%. On the bright side for radio, at least it wasn't as bad as print, which saw national revenue decline 18% in July. [read more]
 
The Federal Communications Commission has launched More Than Seven Dirty Words, a new podcast series that will feature interviews with FCC officials and staff and others in the communications space to share untold stories, explain important policy issues, and maybe even do the impossible: make telecom interesting. This is a follow-up to a story we've been keeping an eye on since June when WGOW Chattanooga morning man Jeff Styles was arrested in a road rage incident. The station released this short statement on Monday: "The company has concluded its internal investigation of the situation and has decided to end our relationship with Jeff Styles.” [read more]

According to Seeking Alpha SiriusXM CEO Jim Meyer will be staying on for at least one more year. Meyer was named interim CEO in December of 2012 when Mel Karmazin left. In 2013 the interim title was dropped. Meyer makes just under $2 million per year in salary plus bonuses that could make him close to $10 million, according to Seeking Alpha. [read more]

Entercom has announced the results of its Boston station’s annual “WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon.” This year’s event raised over $4.4 miillion, which brought the fundraising total to over $53 million since the radio-telethon’s inception. [read more]
