“Wisconsin Strong” Radiothon Helping Storm Victims

WTMJ/Milwaukee has raised more than $40,000 so far for the American Red Cross to aid victims impacted by the recent historic flooding and severe thunderstorms across the state of Wisconsin. The initial donations came as part of the stations’ three-hour “Wisconsin Strong – Storm Relief” radiothon on August 31. During the radiothon, the American Red Cross announced the Ho-Chunk Nation Legislature would be making a gift of $20,000 to the Red Cross Wisconsin Region. The money will go to shelters, food and clean-up kits for distribution to flood and storm damage victims. Beyond that, awareness will encourage others to help in ways that are most needed.

“The generosity of our listeners in southeastern Wisconsin is tremendous,” said Tom Langmyer, VP and General Manager of WTMJ and WKTI and VP, News/Talk/Sports for The E.W. Scripps Company. “Not only are people still donating money to the Red Cross to support specific immediate needs, but the impact of volunteerism and on-site involvement, along with physical and emotional support, is immeasurable.”

“WTMJ held a ‘pop-up’ radiothon on Friday afternoon to quickly raise money for the Red Cross to cover immediate needs,” said Eric Brooks, WTMJ Director of Programming and News. “It’s truly neighbors helping neighbors.”

WTMJ’s Radiothon was supported by sister station 94.5 KTI COUNTRY listeners, along TODAY’S TMJ4 (WTMJ-TV).
