Why You Should Go To The Radio Show

The 2019 Radio Show in Dallas is exactly four weeks away. If you regularly attend the annual event co-produced by The Radio Advertising Bureau and The National Association of Broadcasters, you’ll notice a few changes. If 2019 is your first year attending, here’s what you can expect, as RAB President and CEO Erica Farber fills us all in with all the details.

Radio Ink: There have been some changes to the Radio Show this year. What do you think attendees will notice that is different?
Erica Farber: The most important change is now all attendees will be able to attend the majority of the sessions all together as we address what’s happening across audio – radio, podcast, and streaming. Whether you’re in sales and marketing, programming, digital or management, everyone will be hearing the same information and learning together what is on the horizon for radio and how we can collaborate.

Radio Ink: Talk about what attendees can expect from the keynotes in Dallas this year.
Erica Farber: We’ve got great star power joining us in Dallas, from Gary Vaynerchuk at the Thursday breakfast to the Dallas Cowboys’ Charlotte Jones Anderson on branding, and New York Times best-selling author David Fisher on the power of storytelling. These will be impactful presentations but, more importantly, attendees will receive actionable takeaways. The first session of the day on Wednesday, entitled “You’re Not in the Radio Business Anymore,” is being led by Jacobs Media with specific presentations made by some of the industry’s leading executives, including CEO Jarl Mohn of NPR. This session will share how the business is transforming in small and large ways and how all of us as individual broadcasters can embrace and leverage the changing media landscape. Tuesday afternoon will kick off with a solid session presented by Pillsbury with a state-of-the-industry and how to best prepare for a new regulatory world.

RAB CEO Erica Farber

Radio Ink: What is the best way for first-timers coming to the Radio Show to navigate the event?
Erica Farber: I would recommend doing some prep work and checking out the website www.RadioShowWeb.com. As it gets closer to the actual Radio Show, one should download the app and start planning their schedule and think about the sessions and setting up appointments with the exhibiting companies. Plotting out your schedule will make for a productive conference. Also, there are tremendous networking opportunities at the Radio Show, starting with the Radio Show Opener reception on Tuesday after the first session – it’s a great place to grab a drink and meet fellow attendees.

Radio Ink: Talk about how everyone involved in organizing the show comes up with the ideas, speakers, panels etc. that wind up becoming the final agenda for the event?
Erica Farber: We are fortunate to have a great steering committee of committed radio professionals representing all disciplines. Along with the RAB and NAB teams, the committee works tirelessly with us on ideas, brainstorming, programming setting, and the actual session creation.

Radio Ink: Give us your thoughts on why people should attend the Radio Show?
Erica Farber: My elevator pitch is as follows – give us two-and-a-half days of your time and you will walk away with real ROI – enhanced professional development, grow your business acumen, develop new relationships, and you will have  a renewed energy and feel great about being part of this tremendous radio industry!

NOTE: Radio Ink’s Radio Wayne awards will be handed out on Thursday morning, September 26.
