KNBR Pushes KFOG To The Sidelines

1

Nothing lasts forever. In recent times we’ve seen the demise of some extremely iconic radio brands. The most recent being WPLJ in New York. KFOG in San Francisco will be next to exit the radio stage when Cumulus turns that FM dial position over to its all-sports station KNBR, on September 5.

The glory days of rocker KFOG were pre-2010 when it was more of a Classic Rock station as opposed to an Alternative station, which it is today. In fact the heritage brand of the old days at KFOG will be honored at a September 21 Bay Area Hall of Fame ceremony. The KFOG station of today was not performing well in the ratings and this change gives KNBR a stronger signal and another leg to stand on to compete with 97.5 The Game.

Former KFOG host Dred Scott reacted to the news on his Facebook page:

Unfortunately with the flip there will be more radio employees who will lose their jobs. Cumulus San Francisco Market Manager Doug Harvill said, “It’s never easy to say goodbye to a station, and we want to thank the staff, listeners, and advertisers who together made KFOG the legendary and beloved station that so many of us in San Francisco had the opportunity to enjoy.”
