WAMU 88.5, Washington, DC’s NPR news station, has launched Dish City, a seven-episode podcast series that dives deep into the District’s most distinctive and revealing foods.
Hosts Ruth Tam and Patrick Fort tell the stories of the people and places that make DC’s iconic food famous. The series begins with a look at how the half-smoke became an inextricable part of DC’s cultural identity. Future episodes will dig into mumbo sauce, Ethiopian food, pupusas, and the famous “jumbo slice.”
“To outsiders, DC is a government town – but it’s also eclectic, diverse, and teeming with local culture and flavor. And nowhere is that better reflected than in the foods and dishes born or popularized here. The first episode will be available September 12 with new episodes available on Thursdays.
