How One Veteran Las Vegas Host Covered The Shooting

Alan Stock is one of the most well-known talk show hosts in Las Vegas. He’s been on the air in Vegas for 19 years now, 13 with CBS-owned KXNT where he hosts afternoon drive. When he switched on the news Sunday night to see if anything was going on in the community he calls home, he knew nearly instantly that a major event was taking place. Stock called his PD and his producer, and beelined right for the radio station. We interviewed Stock about the hours and days that followed, all of which he remained on the air.

  1. Would really like to hear this interview but the play button gives me 5 minutes of a New York pediatrician tawking about the incident. The download icon takes me to SoundCloud and then … nothing.

  2. Opening headline Tuesday afternoon KNX, Los Angeles, headline said, and I am quoting verbatim: “Las Vegas shooting was pre-meditated!”.

Really. I’m glad they straightened me out on that because all along after days of in-depth reporting, we’d all figured it was an accident.

Slow down! Think before you crack the mic.

  3. Facebook today is FILLED with old radio guys belligerently asking what “local radio” did for coverage of this sad and tragic event. They’ve asked why local country stations didn’t interrupt and do news, some have denigrated local radio in general giving praise to Sirius XM for “sponsoring” the festival. (Did it do news coverage on it’s country channels after the shooting? They had people on the ground.) Thank you for posting this interview. I am sharing the link with the Facebook idiots.
